Northern Integrated Supply Project

Planning for our future

NISP - Northern Water - Norther Integrated Supply Porject

Plan for our future

Build it or not, people will still come.

In the past decade, Colorado's population increased more than 30-percent. That's nothing compared to the escalating population boom state officials expect over the next two decades, with up to 2 million additional residents predicted by 2030. Those people are all going to need water, despite the uncertain future surrounding our projected water supplies because of global climate change.

Proper planning can preserve enough water for us all.

Agricultural lands are a rich part of Colorado's history, a vital part of the state's economy, and provide open space and wildlife habitat. But they may dry up if we don't protect our water. NISP will provide an alternate water supply for these future demands.

NISP will meet the growing municipal water needs of new developments while also maintaining water for agricultural purposes. Its construction will slow the drying-up of irrigated farmland in northern Colorado and will protect at least 25,000 acres of farmland from water transfers.
