Northern Integrated Supply Project

Planning for our future

NISP - Northern Water - Norther Integrated Supply Porject

Make the most economical choices

Glade is an economically viable project.

According to the draft Environmental Impact Statement, the proposed Glade Reservoir makes the most sense economically for local communities throughout northern Colorado. Sure, the current estimate of $426 million for the project is a large figure. Realistically, though, not building the reservoir will have a greater impact on the cost of water for citizens in the 15 participating communities. Without the reservoir, the participants will be forced to spend significantly more to acquire water. Some estimates project the price of future water supplies to nearly double.

NISP participants will pay for the project.

The 15 participating communities and water districts will fund the entire cost of NISP.  What's more, the predicted growth for the region is expected to cover the costs of the project without affecting current residents. Financial analyses show that even with a low rate of future population growth, current residents will not have to pay for the project. In most cases, growth already adopted in master plans will pay for the project.

We'll all benefit from economies of scale.

Through cooperation, the 15 participants will reduce the cost of developing their necessary future supplies. This makes sense from a regional perspective: NISP provides the savings of buying in bulk while collectively addressing environmental impacts. The partnership with two large irrigation companies also is a unique feature of NISP – one that promises to benefit both our farmers and our smaller, growing communities.
